Campfire Breakfast - Sugar-covered Croissants
Ingredients and tools:
Pillsbury croissant rolls – grab 2-3 cans depending on number of folks (can only eat 2-3 of these no matter how delicious)
“Sugar in the Raw” – golden colored cane sugar – or similar
Cooking spears:
Provide sharp pocket knives (lock-back) to the children
Find and whittle long campfire sticks for cooking
Instructions:
Pour “Sugar in the Raw” into a community-accessible plate of bowl for dipping
Unravel a single croissant from the can into a long strip
Carefully wind the strip around the tip of the cooking spear, so it clings and will not fall off in the fire.
Holding the end of the stick, carefully roll the other end of wrapped croissant dough in the Sugar in the Raw
Cook over indirect heat for 2-5 minutes until golden brown (the doughy ones are the BEST!! – IMO)
Cooking Notes:
The raw dough will burn and sugar ignite over open flame
Find an area of indirect heat (like a hot oven) in the campfire
Each instance will take patience 😊 and is well worth every minute of cooking time
